In the ranking of the magazine “free movies online“, was released 10 best sci-fi movies in the history of cinema.
Coming up with a list of the top 10 best sci-fi pictures of all time was definitely a challenge. There are so many classic sci-fi films/movies out there that even narrowing it down to just 10 was tough.
1. Blade Runner (1982) Dir: Ridley Scott
Whether you prefer the original theatrical version (with a bored-sounding narration and without the famed unicorn scenes) or the director’s cut of a few years later (sans narration and unicorn duly re-inserted), Blade Runner was the runaway favourite in our poll.
The story revolves around Harrison Ford’s policeman, Rick Deckard, and his hunt for four cloned humanoids, known as replicants, in a dystopian version of Los Angeles. Replicants have been deemed illegal and Deckard is a blade runner, a specialist in exterminating them.
The film is loosely based on Philip K Dick’s short story, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? “Blade Runner is the best movie ever made,” says Stephen Minger, stem cell biologist at King’s College London. “It was so far ahead of its time and the whole premise of the story – what is it to be human and who are we, where we come from? It’s the age-old questions.”
It also discusses consciousness with an attempt to formulate a way to tell a human from a machine. The Voight-Kampff empathy test is used by the police in the film to identify the replicants – who have memories implanted and are programmed with artificial emotions. “The Voight-Kampff empathy test is not far away from the sort of thing that cognitive neuroscientists are actually doing today,” says Chris Frith of the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College, London.
Debates rage on whether Deckard himself is a replicant. Ridley Scott says that he is artificial, but Harrison Ford argues that during filming Scott told him Deckard was human. Whatever the answer, it is a worthy winner also because of the quality of the film-making: Vangelis’ brooding score, Rutger Hauer’s replicant’s seminal “I’ve seen things…” speech and that shot of the future LA cityscape, which kicks off the story.
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Dir: Stanley Kubrick
The monoliths have been watching us. They gave humankind the evolutionary kick in the pants it needed to survive at the Dawn of Time. In 1999, humankind discovered a second monolith on the moon. Now, in the year 2001, the S.S. Discovery and its crew, Captains Dave Bowman and Frank Poole, and their onboard computer, HAL 9000, must discover what alien force is watching Earth….
3. Star Wars (1977)/Empire Strikes Back (1980)
The first two films of the original Star Wars trilogy make it onto the list probably for reasons of nostalgia rather than science.
Essentially westerns set in space, they both cover the universal themes of good versus evil while making lead actors Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher spit out mind-boggling technospeak on a regular basis. There is also an element of mysticism (which some say sets them apart from the rest of science fiction), with the idea of an all-pervading “force” that can be harnessed by certain people for good or evil.
The epic saga revolves around the battle between the all-enslaving Empire (led by the Emperor, a force-wielding maniac and his part-human part-machine henchman Darth Vader) and a small band of rebels.
Its use of science is sketchy at best – light-speed travel is dealt with by the use of a “hyperspace” where the normal laws of physics don’t seem to apply and force-wielding Jedi fight with theoretically impossible lightsabers – but the emphasis here is certainly not on answering the problems of the human condition. Two of the first blockbusters, they also started the franchises for toys, games and replicas that no science fiction film can do without nowadays.
4. Alien (1979) Dir: Ridley Scott
In the near future, during its return to the earth, a commercial spaceship Nostromo intercepts a distress SOS from a distant planet. The seven-member crew are woken up from the hypersleep and the spaceship subsequently descends on the planet. While exploring the planet, a three-member team of the crew discovers a derelict spaceship and a huge chamber inside it containing thousands of eggs. When a curious team member goes too near the egg the parasite inside the egg attacks him, rendering him unconscious. He is brought back aboard, the spaceship takes off. After a little while the parasite dies and his host wakes up seemingly unruffled. But other crew members are unaware of the living nightmare which is going to descend upon them when the alien creature planted inside its unfortunate host would emerge.
5. Solaris (1972) Dir: Andrei Tarkovsky
When the scientist Fechner disappears in the surface of the mysterious Solaris Ocean, the experienced helicopter pilot Henri Berton crosses a fog seeking out Fechner and has weird visions. His statement is presented to a commission of scientists that believe he had hallucinations. However, the widowed psychologist Kris Kelvin is assigned to the space station that orbits Solaris to check the mental health of the three remaining scientists that are still working there. He first meets Dr. Snaut, who tells him that Dr. Gibarian committed suicide, and later he meets Dr. Sartorius and he realizes that the scientists have strange behaviors. When he encounters his wife Hari, who died ten years ago, in the space station, the scientists explain to Kris that the Solaris Ocean has the ability to materialize the innermost thoughts in neutrons beings. Kris questions whether the appearance of his beloved wife is a curse or a blessing.
6. Terminator (1984)/T2: Judgment day (1991) Dir: James Cameron
A machine that looks human is sent back in time to the late 20th century. His mission is to kill Sarah Connor and her unborn son, John Connor. Doing so would result in having John’s entire existence destroyed so he won’t exist to help the humans fight a war against the machines. Kyle Reese, one of the soldiers in this war, has been sent back in time to stop the Terminator.
7. The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) Dir: Robert Wise
An alien (Klaatu) with his mighty robot (Gort) land their spacecraft on Cold War-era Earth just after the end of World War II. They bring an important message to the planet that Klaatu wishes to tell to representatives of all nations. However, communication turns out to be difficult, so, after learning something about the natives, Klaatu decides on an alternative approach.
8. War of the Worlds (1953) Dir: Byron Haskin
The Martians unchain a direct assault to our planet, with hundreds of invulnerable ships. The invasion takes place all over the world, and all the major cities are destroyed one after one; even the atomic bomb can’t stop them. But, if the humans can’t beat them, who can? Maybe something MUCH smaller than them…
9. The Matrix (1999) Dir: Andy & Larry Wachowski
During the year 1999, a man named Thomas Anderson (also known as Neo), lives an ordinary life. A software techie by day and a computer hacker by night, he sits alone at home by his monitor, waiting for a sign, a signal – from what or whom he doesn’t know – until one night, a mysterious woman named Trinity seeks him out and introduces him to that faceless character he has been waiting for: Morpheus. A messiah of sorts, Morpheus presents Neo with the truth about his world by shedding light on the dark secrets that have troubled him for so long.
10. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) Dir: Steven Spielberg
Planes reported missing in 1945 suddenly appear in the Mojave desert. A commercial flight is buzzed by a ‘bright’ object that the pilot ‘wouldn’t know how to describe’. Roy Neary, while working one night, has a Close Encounter… The US Government determine where the visitors plan to land and create an elaborate cover-up to keep people away. However, a group of people, including Neary, share a vision which draws them to the place and a meeting with new, and old, friends.
There are many great advantages of being able to watch watch movies online online. For example if you are someone who comes home late from work and would like to just take it easy and enjoy themselves by watching a film, and you might not want to go to the video, then why not just stay home and with just a click of the mouse you can watch any old or new movie.

Although Model Kits are not used in movies as much as they used to be, thanks to things like CGI they are still used in things like explosions as they cost a lot less than using CGI technology. Films have relied on models for a very long time and I don’t think that a high budget film is ever going to be made without the need for a model build.
Even if the movie isn’t actually using a model for the main explosions they will still test the entire scene by building scale models of the thing and blowing them up. If they look good enough they may even choose to scrap the live scene and use the models instead. Models actually look very realistic nowadays and most of this can be put down to the creators being so good. More often than not you will see RC Tanks in the background of many war movies because they are a lot cheaper than using CGI and they look so realistic from a distance.
Of course when it comes to tie in models the film industry makes a lot of money this way and many Scalextric Setshave been sold based on movies such as Batman Begins, The Simpsons, Transformers , Spider-Man and of course the classic Knight Rider and people are very much interested in buying those things. This really does show that film makers not only rely on models to help to make the movies but on the sales of the models themselves to make a bit of money.
Although CGI is around it still remains to be seen if it is the best way for film makers to see what is going to happen. testing is good because if something does happen and it all goes wrong it is going to cost a lot of money.
