Reception is a very important part of any offices, hotels, bars, restaurants and clubs. Normally reception furniture are massively different for the above industries. However you surely can spot the difference between an office reception and a hotel reception the difference will be HUGE. All of the above businesses have to receive people from outside and the reception is definitely the first thing their customers/clients are going to see.
Many digital media companies in England have fantastic looking reception area. One in Birmingham that I went to had a bar with some club furniture around the bar. It looked more like a mini bar but very eye catchy. That was the first impression on me and I was very – very impressed. You only get once chance to make a good first impression.
I decided to change the look of my reception inspired from what I saw there but with a bit of a twist. I wanted cafe furniture with comfortable sofas most cafes have. I moved our aquarium from the reception to the main office and replaced it with American pool table, how about that?. As we are a law firm we get very tensed and worried clients and bit of a pool and coffee will take them away from their worries for a bit and will also help the clients and us the experts to think properly with clear mind. I did ask few clients and they gave very good feedback, they loved the new looking reception. I have to say a big thank you to my receptionists because they helped me with lovely ideas.
Now the reception has the basic requirements of desk, chairs, coat rack, table and stuff but it also has a creative effect of a cafe with a pool table. This brilliant change has made our clients feel like at home and not somewhere they don’t feel comfortable. An office for a legal profession as ours, have to spend a lot of on the reception area as most of the times meeting rooms are occupied and you can deal with your clients outside in the reception.

Garden is an important factor for any house. Having a clear beautiful looking garden can increase your property value by 20 to 30%. Many people these days are decorating their garden so that the value of the property increases in the market. Most gardens these days have swimming pools, trampolines and other garden accessories which might be in an interest of the buyers.
I believe that this is a great idea and it will work. Another good idea would be if you have a big garden then increase the size of your conservatory to create extra rooms. Recently I had my conservatory rebuilt with one extra room and a toilet. Before it was a two bedroom house with 1 bathroom, 1 living room and 1 reception but now it is a three bedroom house with two bathrooms, one reception, one conservatory and one living room. This change cost me approx £3,000 but has helped increased the price of my house by 15%, which is a lot of money.
This is just one example, recently my Uncle built a play ground in his back garden which includes five swings, two 12ft trampolines with safetypads and safety nets, 5 benches and a water fountain. How did he afford it? He has been a Doctor for over 40 years so this was nothing for him. His pension is nearly double to what I get for my salary and I am an engineer for god sake, so just imagine how big his house is – I might as well call it a mansion. I asked him why he built a playground for and spend all this money, he gently replied: in few months he wants to move somewhere small with his wife, so he wants to either rent of sell this property as a house or as a nursery. What a really good idea. He can get his money he spent on it by renting it to a school or a nursery so he won’t really be loosing anything. I am now thinking to add a 10ft trampoline on to my garden and create a playground for my kids.
