Do You Have A Rotator Cuff Injury?

You must be amazed at how wonderful our bodies have been made, with muscles, bones, joints, and other body parts that give us the capability to do almost anything. With so much ability that the body is able to do, especially with complete training and physical activities, some people push their bodies to the limit. This results in damage to the physical body in the form of sickness or injury.

In terms of the physical aspect, the shoulders are one of the most useful and important parts of our body. This is where our arms are connected to our upper body, and without our shoulders may be we would not have arms as well. This would definitely limit us from doing a lot of things. Some who have already experienced shoulder muscle pain, say a rotator cuff injury for example, often experience severe pain that even results in immobility of the entire arms in worse case scenarios.

Before going any further, let us first discuss what a rotator cuff is, how it gets injured and what we can do to prevent the injury. The rotator cuff is also called the musculotendinous cuff and consists of four muscles;the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and the subscapularis. These muscles are found in the shoulders and function by helping the arms to move and rotate without dislocating bones or muscles. On the other hand, a rotator cuff injury is a muscle injury on the part of the shoulders. A rotator cuff injury can either be a simple muscle inflammation or it can be as serious as a severe tear in the muscle.

There are many reasons why people suffer from rotator cuff injury. The athletes are the ones who mostly suffer this kind of muscle injury of the shoulders. Strenuous activities involving the use of the shoulders and arms, just like kayakers, tennis players, and bowlers do, the tendency of having their rotator cuff muscles injured is much possible. If their muscles are stressed suddenly, this will cause a muscle tear or inflammation.

Some rotator cuff injuries can be cured through simple hot or cold compress. While others who fall into more serious cases which may need some kind of operation in order to be cured and repaired. Aside from that, some would require rehabilitation and therapy to be done for a few months for the muscles to fully recover. Some may even require lifetime maintenance so as not to experience the injury again.

The truth is a muscle injury such as what happens to the rotator cuff is avoidable, especially if the person is careful enough in using his arms and in performing arm movements. Proper preparation before engaging in strenuous physical activities will also be helpful. Also, having a healthy diet and avoiding eating those foods that can contribute to arthritis would be very helpful in preventing certain kinds of muscle pains and injuries.

In the end, people should always take care of their bodies by having a healthy diet and keeping the body active so as to not weaken the muscles. Physical activities like walking, jogging, running, and simple work outs can also help strengthen your muscles and avoid not just a rotator cuff injury, but other muscles injuries for that matter. Before doing so, be sure to prepare your body well before doing strenuous activities. Stretching and yoga can also be helpful to relax your body before and after doing a variety of physical activities.

Alopecia or hair loss is a very common thing but it can also be an embarrassing time for patients and it can be very stressful. There are some obvious reasons for hair loss in men such as old age and genetics, but there are some medical conditions that can cause mild and severe hair loss. The following conditions are the leading causes for hair loss in men and women.

Firstly, chemical breakage is probably the leading cause for hair loss in women. It’s usually caused by over processing with hair dye and bleach. It can cause serious damage to your hair but everyone’s threshold is different. It can happen as early as the first time you dye your hair or as late as 20 years after having dyed your hair on a regular basis.

One of the major medical conditions that can cause hair loss is hypothyroidism which is a condition where your thyroid gland, located in your neck, slows down production or stops working altogether. The thyroid gland controls a release of hormones into your blood stream and without them you can experience hair loss, weight gain and usually a low body temperature or feeling the cold a lot.

One of the other common causes of hair loss is the use of certain chemotherapy drugs and this is why many cancer patients lose their hair. It’s commonly thought that one of the symptoms of cancer is hair loss but this isn’t the case – it’s the treatment for cancer, known as chemotherapy, which causes hair loss and this is simply because in order to wipe out cancer, you need a savage range of treatment which can affect other areas of your body, in this case, your hair.

Then of course, there’s the genetic side of things which may or may not be treatable. It depends on the condition; Genodermatosis for example, is a skin condition which can cause hair loss and it is a hereditary disease – there are treatment options available for this condition but not for all.

If you are at all worried about hair loss then you should contact your GP and make an appointment to have a full blood count done. This will usually flag any conditions and infections which could be causing it but it can also be something as simple as a poor diet so make sure that you talk to your GP.
